Distiller: Mannochmore
Bottler: SMWS
Brand: SMWS
Selection: None – General Release
ABV: 57.5% ABV
Age: 15 Years
Nose: Musty, nutty, caramel and sherry driven nose. It’s mossy, loaded with sugary spice, cinnamon and toffee and butterscotch and maple. It’s thick and dessert-y with the right mustiness that old sherry fans love.
Taste: Rich palate, nutty and dry up front with pleasant oak, juicy berries, caramels and some sawdust-y, nutty, funky sherry popping up in the mid palate. Little heat up front but dissipates with a couple minutes of air time. The drier, sherry notes pop with airtime.
Finish: Long finish, woody and full of malt character with some salted caramel, nutty sherry and a hint of woody funk. It’s worth noting this is a much drier sherry profile than like a super juicy and fat PX sort of profile and it works here and is every much in lock step with my other Mannochmore experience.s
Overall: Overall, this is a great look at Mannochmore although I find it a touch woody and drying. That said, the sherry is dialed in and it’s a great introduction to a distillery we see far too little of.
