WhistlePig announced on Tuesday that the Vermont whiskey brand was listing its 966 square-foot “Maple Sugar Shack” on Zillow for a cool $4.2 million on Zillow.
The brand shared the shack includes a “fully operational Tiki Bar, panoramic Vermont views, and a whiskey-powered cold plunge.”
Any prospective buyers who are interested in forking up the dough to pay for the Maple Sugar Shack will be gifted a free bottle of the brand’s barrel-aged maple syrup. The listing is flagged by Zillow as a “showcase listing,” and Zillow claims it is used for demonstrative purposes only.
Admittedly, we were unsure that we could think of anybody in this current economy who would pay $4.2 million for a 966-square-foot shack in a remote area of Vermont — besides the occasional tech oligarch —so we were relieved to see that this was another prime example of WhistlePig’s brilliantly irreverent marketing strategy.
Needless to say, we checked the listing out on Zillow, and the site says it is active. The shack is listed by Mortimer Jr., a “top agent” on Zillow. His profile picture? A pig, of course.
The 966 square-foot shack was built in 2017, and it has a parking lot that can host up to 20 vehicles. It is situated on 17 acres of land, according to Zillow. As of Wednesday morning, the listing had 4,160 views and 207 saves on the housing site.
“Step into your syrup-soaked dream at the WhistlePig Maple Sugar Shack, where barrels of Vermont Grade-A maple syrup slumber soundly alongside you,” the Zillow listing read. “Tucked deep within Mountain forests, this isn’t just a shack – it’s a bespoke farmhouse fantasy waiting to become your reality.”
In a news release, WhistlePig shared that after “a series of unconventional tenants and property disputes,” it decided to put the teeny tiny property on the market. The brand claimed the shack was secured by the Troopers — yes, as in the movie “Super Troopers” — in 2024 “to protect and serve the shrinking maple syrup industry.”
The brand shared that the Troopers spent their time in the shack experimenting with WhistlePig Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup and began using it in the brand’s signature Maple Old Fashioned with PiggyBack Rye.
“We’ve spent plenty of time at the Sugar Shack, and there are definitely some stories hidden, baked and soaked into those walls,” said Super Troopers actor Jay Chandrasekhar. “Don’t freak out man, our shenanigans here were cheeky and fun while we built up the syrup supply. We only chugged as much as was strictly necessary to prove we are all that is man the old fashioned way. There’s plenty to stir up with the heavenly hooch that is WhistlePig’s PiggyBack Rye to make a Maple Old Fashioned.”
This wouldn’t be WhistlePig’s first venture with the cast of the 2001 comedy flick “Super Troopers,” starring the sketch group Broken Lizard. In April 2024, WhistlePig partnered with the cast of Super Troopers for a special syrupy and waffle-y release, according to Robb Report. The whiskey brand and comedy troupe unveiled WhistlePig Whiskey Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup: Troopers Edition. In true “Super Troopers” fashion, the bottle featured a mustache on the label and was also included in a whiskey and waffles kit, giving a new meaning to the term “breakfast whiskey.”
WhistlePig announced that prospective “buyers” could take a 3D tour and check out the Tiki Bar and Maplemastic evaporator — a tool for creating Maple Old Fashioneds.
“At WhistlePig, we don’t just push boundaries, we barrel-age them,” said Distiller Mitch Mahar. “The Sugar Shack is equal parts Vermont tradition, craftsmanship and a darn good time. We figured if the Troopers could stake it out for long enough, it was only fair to pass the keys to the next lucky owner, along with all the syrup shenanigans they can handle.”
