The Courier reported on Saturday that authorities are investigating a theft at the Glenturret Distillery. The whisky brand’s claim to fame is pricey bottles often done in collaboration with the premium glassware designer Lalique. Such bottles often fetch thousands of dollars in the marketplace.
The theft took place on Saturday after the distillery ended up closing because of “unforeseen circumstances.”
A Facebook post from the Police of Scotland Tayside read that the break-in took place at 0445 hours. The thieves broke in to the distillery and pilfered several bottles of Glenturret whisky housed in glass decanters made by Lalique.
The Whiskey Wash reported that one of the stolen bottles was a Glenturret 25 Year old which has a suggested retail price of £1,400 ($1,750.) Another bottle the thieves took was a bottle of Lalique’s Still Life Spring, which is priced at £5,500 ($7,249)

The Glenturret shares its claim to fame is the fact that it is Scotland’s oldest working distillery and started operating in 1763. Though the whisky brand is prestigious, its origin story is a bit murkier. ScotchWhisky reported that the distillery was run illegally by smugglers several decades before that.
Situated within the Highlands with the likes of The Macallan, the brand’s facilities are located in the picturesque town of Crieff.
As for the brand’s whiskies, the brand’s 2024 Core Collection features six whiskies: The Glenturret Triple Wood, The Glenturret 7 Years, The Glenturret 10 Years Peat Smoked, The Glenturret 12 Years Old, The Glenturret 14 Years Old and The Glenturret 15 Years Old
The scotch whisky brand additionally released two “Extremely Scarce” offerings: a 25- and 30-year-old expression. Just 210 exist for the brand’s 25-year-old expression and 30 are available for the brand’s 30-year-old expression.
Several whiskies from the brand’s portfolio have fetched high prices on the market, including a decanter to honor the American artist James Turrell priced at approximately $100,000 according to Forbes.
Authorities are urging anybody with information to come forward.
