Russell's Reserve

Russell’s Reserve announced on Monday that the storied bourbon brand was bringing back its highly coveted 13-year-old bourbon for 2025 — except there’s something different with this year’s release. Typical releases of Russell’s Reserve 13 Year Old Limited Release Bourbon come at a barrel proof of 114.8; this year’s offering clocks in at 123.9.

“This release of Russell’s Reserve 13 Year Old is special to me not only because it celebrates our legacy, but because it represents a new chapter in the evolution of this bourbon,” Wild Turkey Distilling Co. Master Distiller Eddie Russell said in a statement. “Each release is a labor of love and a reflection of the time and care we put into crafting every bottle. This one carries the signature profile the 13 is known for, but with enhanced cola notes that bring a new depth of flavor. I’m excited to share this iteration with our fans because I think they’re going to love drinking it as much as I enjoyed making it.”

The Russell’s Reserve 13 Year Old Bourbon hosts a suggested retail price of $200 for a 750 ml bottle, and the brand shares that it will be available in limited amounts online. If any Russell’s Reserve fans happen to make their way to the distillery, they can pick up a bottle there as well.

For each year’s release since the label’s inception in June 2021, the brand shares that Eddie Russell himself goes through his stocks and picks the best barrels for Russell’s Reserve 13 Year. Russell’s shares that the release will be available until it’s gone.

The brand shares that this whiskey has an aroma of brown sugar, with vanilla. A funky undercurrent that the distillery prides itself on as being central to its identity also makes its presence known at first whiff. The palate offers some cola and dark fruit, coupled with molasses drizzle and butter cream to lift things a bit. The palate lingers on and on, with an oak spine and a kick of spice.
