Willett Distillery announced on Nov. 6 that it was dropping a small-batch bourbon that is a marriage of two separate mashbills. Willett Family Estate Small Batch Bourbon features juice selected from 50 barrels. For this release, the juice entered the barrels at 125 proof. Each proof varies based on the batch.

“Willett Family Estate Small Batch Bourbon represents the next step in our family’s journey,” Master Distiller Drew Kulsveen said in a statement. “From our family’s Thanksgiving table to yours, our values of gratitude, grit and hospitality are intentionally poured into every barrel and every single bottle we put on the table. It’s important to celebrate those we hold most dear over a shared pour, while remembering our most favorite stories about those who aren’t at the table.”

Of the two mashbills, 70% of the marriage involves a bourbon with 72% corn, 13% rye and 15% barley. The remaining 30% features a blend of 52% corn, 38% rye and 10% barley.

Willett Distillery shares that this release is more in alignment with the brand’s Single Barrel collection. Willett Family Estate Single Barrel’s reputation hinges upon its quality and variety.

About Willett Distillery — A Brand With Almost 100 Years of History

Willett tends to keep a low profile, yet the brand has plenty of fans. This independent, family-owned and operated brand has roots that date back to 1936, just three years after Prohibition.

The brand began using its copper pot still in 2015, and Willett’s Family Estate Rye whiskey was the first to go through the still. A year later, Willett released its first bourbon on the copper pot still, marking the beginning of the Willett Family Estate collection.

In June, Willett shared that it was joining forces with Binder’s Stash. The partnership emerged from Kulsveen’s role as a mentor to Bill Binder, the founder of the fledgling whiskey brand.

“We built our reputation by sourcing and releasing some of the most distinctive American whiskeys in the country, but Willett represents a different level: generational expertise, uncompromising quality, and a legacy that elevates everything it touches,” said Binder. “Together we’re setting a new bar for what American whiskey can be.”
