The Spirits Business reported on Tuesday that Buffalo Trace is opening the “most remote” tasting room in the country. The tasting room is a floor-to-ceiling glass box in the middle of the plains of Wyoming. Guests can sip bourbons with views of wild roaming buffalo, making it truly unique as far as tastings go.
Buffalo Trace named the experience “Perfectly Untamed.” It is a part of the brand’s partnership with the Buffalo Field Campaign, an organization that protects American wild buffalo.
“Our distillery was founded when the buffalo crossed the Kentucky River, and our flagship bourbon pays tribute to the paths they carved around the US frontier. With Perfectly Untamed, we set out to build more than a tasting room — we wanted to build a place where time could stand still,” said Buffalo Trace Global Brand Director Andrew Duncan in a statement. “Deep in the perfectly untamed Wyoming wilderness, guests will sip as buffalo roam free, a reminder that there is still room for power, determination and a little reflection.”
Perfectly Untamed will take place in Spring 2026 and consists of a series of two-hour tastings guided by Buffalo Trace’s VIP Visitor Lead and Bourbon Hall of Fame Inductee Freddie Johnson. Johnson will taste up to two guests through the lineup, and guests will enjoy bespoke cocktails during the event.
Just six reservations are available, and interested parties can book through Buffalo Trace. A $500 donation to the Buffalo Field Campaign is required, and guests will receive a $1,000 travel stipend apiece.
The experience books on a first-come, first-serve basis, but a waitlist is available and Buffalo Trace shares that it will email guests if a spot opens up.
A Whiskey Brand That Understands the Power of Storytelling
Buffalo Trace seems to understand that whiskey is a narrative-driven industry. The brand offers no shortage of distinctive experiences that range from pop-up telephone booths in London to touring tastings and more.
In October, the brand joined forces with paranormal investigators for a ghost hunting sweepstakes at the brand’s Kentucky distilleries. Buffalo Trace’s “Night at the Distillery” involved a sweepstakes where one winner could experience a guided tour with paranormal investigators. The brand also hosted a self-guided version of the tour, with live entertainment and a tasting of three craft cocktails with ghost stories.
