The Schtick: Distilled by Fettercairn, this release is supposedly quite limited in nature – 500 bottles for the US Market. It’s aged entirely in ex-bourbon and bottled at 42% ABV. With an asking price of about $1250, it’s a steep ask. How does it perform? Let’s dive in.

Distiller: Fettercairn
Bottler: Fettercairn
Brand: Fettercairn
Selection: None – General Release
ABV: 42% ABV
Age: 28 Years
Nose: Vanilla, stewed peaches, cinnamon, dole syrup, a hint of white pepper, butterscotch and a hint of tropical fruits and pear. Hint of earthiness, there’s a hint of umami, old wood, almost a faint musty sherry note. Pleasant, complex.
Taste: Pleasant palate, nice viscosity. Woodiness up front, pleasant tannin and some wood sugars and caramel. Light pepper, ginger, faint hint of bitterness. The wood turns to tropical fruits, apple butter, more cinnamon, a hint of almond and a pleasant brulee note.
Finish: Long finish, combination of stewed fruits, apple butter, more almond, peach, pear and vanilla. A good bit going on!
Overall: This is a pleasant pour. At 28 years old it’s well developed and complex. A couple proof points would really amp this up but there’s no denying it’s a complex, easy, sipper.
