The Schtick: Distilled by Glenfiddich and aged for 30 years, this is their flagship OB release and packaged in quite a striking decanter. It wasn’t cheap, but Glenfiddich was one of my first scotches and I always vowed I’d try one of these some day. No word of coloring or filtering and almost certainly not cask strength. Let’s dive in shall we!
Disclosure: None – purchased at retail.

Review #2610 | Whiskey Review #963
Distiller: Glenfiddich
Bottler: Glenfiddich
Brand: Glenfiddich
Selection: None – General Release
ABV: 43% ABV
Age: 30 Years
Nose: Apples, peaches, pears, brown sugar and cinnamon. Warm pastries, honey, a bit of leather and heather, candied oranges and light pepper.
Taste: Pleasant palate but thin to moderate in terms of texture. Flavorful for 43% perfect but far from bold or impressively expressing. Smooth and easy; honey, vanilla, peach rings, caramels and toffee. Lovely baking spice and light oak, heather and a touch of dusty woodiness.
Finish: Long finish, star of the show here: lovely intersection of baked peaches and apples, cinnamon, toffee, buttercream, caramels and pepper.
Overall: Overall; this is quite nice but there’s no shaking that this would be really something at 46, 48 or even 50% ABV. At 43% it is well composed and flavorful but meek. It’s not bad and there’s so much lovely stuff happening and o understand why the proof is here. That said, I long to try it at a higher proof where I believe it would be remarkable.
