The Schtick: Dipping a year back in the shelf is the 2023 Michter’s 10 Year single barrel rye. At just over 46% ABV, I’m curious how this bottle has stood the test of time.

Disclosure: Sample provided by producer, back when I wrote elsewhere.

Review #2640 | Whiskey Review #1135

Distiller: Michter’s

Bottler: Michter’s

Brand: Michters

Selection: None – General LTO Release

ABV: 46.4% ABV

Age: 10 Years

Nose: Much heavier dessert character than the 24 I recently put pen (back) to paper on. Heavy brown sugar, some toasted marshmallow, pie crust, toffee and crème brûlée. Hint of pepper, spice. Lots of woodiness and oak.

Taste: Pleasant and sweet on the palate. More fruity than spicy with some tropical fruit and apple butter, baked apples and cinnamon here. After a moment the rye spice shows up: herbal and woody again. Some brown sugar, really apple-y which is interesting. Really nice.

Finish: Long finish. The longest finish of the whiskeys I’ve revisited here (2023 and 2024 bourbon and ryes from the big M) and really satisfying. Fully formed, tons of oak and brown butter, brown sugar and toffee.

Overall: An easy favorite between all of my revisits, the 2023 Michter’s 10yr rye is no slouch and packs together everything a great rye has going for it from Kentucky. Bravo.

Thanks for reading!
