Forbes reported that Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch dropped for 2025. Master Distiller Brent Elliott describes this year’s release as a “return” to the brand’s classic profile. After a brief detour of experimentation with the latest batches, this year’s release focuses more on an interplay of stone fruit and oak, with a sweeter profile.
“I think this one’s really going to speak to people who enjoy the core Four Roses flavor,” Elliott expressed in a statement. “It’s kind of an homage to that classic profile — and I think it really captures that.”
This year’s recipe consists of three 13-year-old bourbons. 38% of the blend features Four Roses’ 13-year OBSV recipe, 35% features the brand’s OESV recipe and 17% features the brand’s 13-year OBSK recipe. 10% features a 19-year-old OESV recipe.
“These particular batches really had an abundance of that sweet barrel characteristic,” Elliott explained. “Together, they created a foundation that felt classic Four Roses, but with that extra layer of age and complexity.”
The liquid was non-chill-filtered before it was bottled at barrel strength, per all releases. And, true to Four Roses’ form, the whiskey is made from batches that are a minimum of 10 years old. Elliott explains that the two V recipes are the stars of the show, and they possess a “super typical” and “super rich” V quality. Four Roses enthusiasts understand that means a whiskey that is rich in pear, vanilla and oak flavors.
Just 16,854 bottles are going to hit the shelves, and each bottle features a suggested retail price of $249. The storied whiskey brand will additionally be holding a lottery on its campus, where those who want to purchase the whiskey from the brand’s visitor center in Lawrenceburg can apply. Those who are interested in entering can do so from August 19 to the 24. Four Roses will notify the winners on August 29.
The small batch releases are typically drawn in January of each year, according to Forbes. Part of the charm behind the Limited Small Batch drop involves the bourbon brand’s process. The company creates multiple recipes with its five proprietary yeast strains. With each release, Elliott chooses a combination he finds truly exceptional. The recipes involve multiple combinations, and this Limited Edition Small Batch release offers the brand an opportunity to experiment.
