Some of the best whiskeys that were released this week involve stories of redemption, like one of the legendary producers within the Pacific Northwest, Westland’s latest offering. Others include rare holiday advent calendars that feature releases from distilleries almost lost to time.
We’ve also gone ahead and included whiskey releases from under-the-radar brands, like California’s own Hinterhaus. Read on to see the best whiskeys that dropped the week of October 24.
Very Old & Rare Whisky Collection by Drinks by the Dram

The Spirits Business reported on Oct. 22 that Drinks by the Dram unveiled a whisky advent calendar with a suggested price of $13,209.
Now, just what exact kind of whiskies would be featured in a calendar with that hefty a price tag? Well, some of the highlights include a 40-year-old Balvenie and some offerings from lost distilleries like the Japanese legend, Karuizawa.
Head of Whisky at That Boutique-y Whisky Company, Sam Simmons, claimed that the team had a blast creating the cabinet, calling it “a time capsule” and “a tribute to whisky’s story.”
“We have gathered whiskies so rare the warehouse cat has never even seen them,” Simmons said.
Each whisky is housed in a 30ml sample bottle that has been wax-sealed.
Singularity American Single Malt Whiskey by Hinterhaus

California brand, Hinterhaus, launched its first American Single Malt with its fifth anniversary just around the corner, according to Fred Minnick.
The outlet reported on Oct. 21 that the bottle marks the first American Single Malt within Hinterhaus’s program, and it was finished in port casks. For the grain bill, Hinterhaus used malt from Admiral Maltings and Great Western. It was aged in ex-American Single Malt casks with a medium toast before it spent time finishing in California Port French Oak casks.
According to the brand, the port cask imbues the liquid with cherry and toffee, in addition to the grain profile that’s true to form for the whiskey category.
Teeling Whiskey Sommelier Selection Rioja Cask Finish by Teeling Irish Whiskey

On October 17, The Spirits Business reported that Teeling released the seventh offering within its Sommelier Selection Series. This particular whiskey hosts a distinctive wine cask finish we don’t see that often: Spanish Rioja Red Wine Casks.
A widely popular red wine in Spain, Rioja derives from Tempranillo grapes, and sometimes involves other varietals like Garnacha and Mazuelo.
This release hosts an ABV of 46%, and there’s aromas of strawberry compote, cinnamon spice and a palate of dark berries, butterscotch, black pepper and nutmeg according to The Spirits Business.
Garyanna 10 Year Old American Single Malt by Westland Distillery

On Oct. 20, Robb Report shared that Westland dropped one of its best whiskeys yet, and this release is special in an unusual way. In September, a $1 million heist that took place at Westland left the distillery short of 12,000 bottles. A significant amount of the pilfered booze involved this rare release.
Westland’s choice to release what remains of the stocks of its 10-Year-Old Garryana marks a victory of sorts. The release of this whiskey is clearly a success, as according to Robb Report, Westland saw record-breaking sales in less than an hour when the bottle dropped on Saturday.
Garryana Tenth Edition’s base consists of a mashbill featuring five barley varietals from the distillery: Five Malt, Washington Pale Malt, Copeland Pale Malt, 2-Row Distiller’s Pale Malt and Pilsen Pale Malt, according to the outlet. It spent time maturing in a cornucopia of casks, including tempranillo, Pedro Ximenez, Garryana oak and ex-Bourbon casks.
Wire Works Provenance Port Cask Whiskey by White Peak Distillery

The Spirits Business reported on Oct. 20, that White Peak Distillery added a new whiskey to its Wire Works Provenance Core Range.
Clocking in at 50.2% ABV, the lightly peated whisky spent time aging in Port barriques from Dias Cooperage and first-fill American oak ex-Bourbon barrels. Wire Works Port Cask hosts a suggested price of $87 for a 700 ml bottle.
According to the brand, the whisky offers up aromas of milk chocolate, candied ginger on the nose. The palate features aromas of strawberries and cream, lemon curd. The lengthy and complicated finish offers up eucalyptus.
