It’s hard to believe we’re almost in September and summer is drawing to a close. The best whiskeys that dropped this week featured some standout offerings marking the launch of new programs from under-the-radar brands like Buzzard’s Roost. The list also includes India’s oldest single malt, marking a significant milestone for the whisky region.
As we close out the Summer of 2025, read on to learn all about some of the hottest releases that dropped this week from brands like Jack Daniel’s, Barrell Craft and more.
The Expedition 15 Year Old Single Malt by Amrut

The Spirits Business reported on Thursday that India’s whisky icon, Amrut, unveiled a 15-year-old expression called The Expedition. Just 75 bottles exist, and each one boasts a hefty price tag of $12,500. But here’s the kicker: it hosts the title of India’s oldest whisky released to date.
With its intense and warm climate increasing the likelihood of evaporation, few extended-age whiskies come from India. Yet the folks at Amrut broke boundaries with this release. It was meant to celebrate the brand’s Managing Director, Neelakanta Rao Jagdale. Jagadale passed away in 2019, but was a key figure in India’s whisky industry. Notably, Jagadale pioneered the Indian single malt whisky category.
The distillate originated from a mashbill of six-row Indian barley. The liquid spent eight years resting in a Pedro Ximénez Sherry butt. After that, the team at Amrut moved it to an ex-Bourbon barrel where it matured for an additional seven years.
It clocks in at 62.8% ABV, and. according to the brand, features aroma of cane molasses, sandalwood and vanilla pod. The palate offers up chocolate-coated sherry flavors, coupled with bitter cola and dried fruit, according to The Spirits Business.
Foundation Single Barrel Line by Barrell Craft Bourbon

Breaking Bourbon reported on August 25 that the experimental bourbon brand Barrell Craft launched a new line of whiskeys. It is called the Foundation Series, and it marks the independent bourbon blender’s foray into microblending.
Each offering within the brand’s Foundation line consists of two Indiana five-year-old barrels, both blended to create a microbatch. The team subsequently moves the whiskey blends to another barrel situated in one of the prime spots in Barrell Craft’s warehouse for extended hang time.
The barrels then roll out in batches of 40, and on each label, Barrell Craft will share just where exactly in the rickhouse the whiskey aged before release. Admittedly, we don’t know the exact ABV percentages this microbatch release possesses, or the suggested pricing just yet, but we do know that Barrell’s distribution network will sell the whiskeys.
Founder’s Select Single Barrel Bourbon by Buzzard’s Roost

Fred Minnick reported on August 28 that Buzzard’s Roost is dropping its Founder’s Select Single Barrel Bourbon. The culty bourbon brand was founded in 2019, and is the result of a partnership between Judy Hollis Jones and Jason Brauner. Brauner and Jones wanted to create a “unique” bourbon brand that focused on oak influence, and their whiskeys often implement barrels seasoned for 18 months, which marks a deviation from the norm of 6 months.
The highly limited release is only available at Buzzard’s Roost’s tasting room and online. This release marks the first within Buzzard’s Roost’s monthly series of single-barrel whiskey releases. The monthly program involves an “awesome new single barrel” set to drop every month from Buzzard’s Roost’s stocks. The first release features a mashbill composed of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley. This $95 bottle clocks in at 114.2 proof and spent six years aging until it was ready for release.
The bourbon brand shares that the inaugural Founder’s Select Single Barrel features a nose of caramel, raisins and roasted nuts. The palate is full of citrus, dark apples and toffee interlaced with cinnamon sugar. The silky finish possesses aromas of dark and light brown sugar.
Single Barrel Heritage by Jack Daniel’s

On August 25, Robb Report shared the news that the Tennessee whiskey brand, Jack Daniel’s, was making its Single Barrel Heritage Tennessee Whiskey a permanent release available all year long. The outlet reported that this whiskey first dropped in 2018 and 2019, and it is finished in toasted barrels to add an additional boost of flavor.
The whiskey was distilled from a mashbill composed of 80% corn, 12% malted barley and 8% rye. True to form, it undergoes the Lincoln County Process and spends time being filtered through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal. The release hosts a suggested retail price of $70.
With an aroma of soft oak, honey and candied fruit, the whiskey has a finish that crackles with brown sugar.
Estate Collection by Penelope Bourbon

On August 23, One More Dram reported that Penelope Bourbon was dropping its 2025 Estate Collection. The collection consists of a limited-release drop of four whiskeys priced from $79.99 to $199.99.
The collection features Penelope Founders Reserve 13 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Penelope Omega 11 Year Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Penelope Single Barrel 10 Year Bourbon and Penelope Private Select 10 Year Bourbon.
The 13 Year Old Kentucky Bourbon clocks in at 121 proof and just 11,100 bottles are available. The bourbon brand also revealed that this whiskey features notes of caramel, vanilla and candied fruit.
The brand’s Omega 11 Year Bourbon Whiskey spent time finishing in Omega French Oak barrels with a specific toast profile. Just 10,800 bottles exist of this brown-sugar driven bourbon.
The brand’s Single Barrel 10 Year Bourbon is composed of two different offerings with distinctive mashbills. One release has a higher percentage of corn and yields flavors of vanilla and dark fruits like plums. The other is distilled from a higher-rye mashbill. As far as flavor is concerned, it yields orchard fruit aromas of apricots and has a chocolatey throughline.
The final offering is a blended bourbon that was bottled at 106.8 proof. 41,400 bottles are available and it features aromas of caramel, vanilla honey bun and oak spice.
