WhistlePig

CNN reported on Wednesday that Whistle Pig and the water company, Liquid Death, joined forces to release a wheat whiskey finished in a casket. Yeah, you read that right. WhistlePig GraveStock Wheat Whiskey features a suggested price of $74.99. The release hits the shelves on June 24.

Gravestock Wheat Whiskey clocks in at a modest 85 proof and the brand shares that it is a light and summery wheat whiskey with aromas of biscotti and butterscotch.

With the release, WhistlePig and Liquid Death shared that they were “pouring one out for the drinkers who know life is too short to drink nothing but the best.”

The brands assuaged any reader’s concerns that the whiskey may have come into contact with the dearly departed, as the casket was custom-made for the project. This wheat whiskey finished in the casket for two weeks.

The outlet reported that both brands are relatively young and have often focused on high-profile partnerships.

“They’ve both got their own very distinctive followings and as a result, the partnership is where the DNA of one brand meets the DNA of another brand, collaborating and combining to create something that pique’s people’s interest was well as opening up both brands to new consumers,” WhistlePig CEO Charles Gibb said in a statement.

According to The Whiskey Wash, the casket-shaped finishing casks marked WhistlePig’s first time using an unconventional vessel for its whiskeys. WhistlePig’s Head Blender Meghan Ireland shares that the casket finishing cask adds a subtle character, which allows the wheat whiskey to have its moment in the sun.

From The Weird to Wild to Wonderful — a History of WhistlePig Releases

WhistlePig is no stranger to doing some zany releases, and honestly? That’s probably why the brand has so many fans.

In April, WhistlePig and the “Super Troopers” stars joined forces to release a bottle of cannabis-infused maple syrup to celebrate the hash-themed holiday, 4/20. The maple syrup was non-psychoactive — bummer — and paired well with a WhistlePig Maple Syrup Old Fashioned.

The Vermont whiskey brand has made waves with its more alcoholically inclined releases as well. In October 2022, Men’s Journal reported that WhistlePig released Boss Hog, a whiskey that looked to Ancient Greece for inspiration. WhistlePig Siren’s Song was double cask finished. The first cask held Greek fig nectar, and the second held a Grecian liqueur called tentura.

Other interesting releases include WhistlePig’s 2024 Formula One collaboration. Robb Report shared that the rye whiskey was aged in casks that held a vacuum-distilled gin. The gin’s base consisted of oats and apple peels in Finland.
