Trend Hunter reported on Wednesday that Stellum Spirits — one of the brands under the heavy-hitting Barrell Craft Spirits — and Star Trek Spirits just dropped two whiskeys to pay homage to the popular Sci-Fi show.
The expressions consist of a 118.2-proof rye whiskey and a 120.67-proof blended cask-strength whiskey. Both whiskeys are packaged in bottles designed to replicate the television show’s famous Romulan Ale. Each bottle hosts a suggested retail price of $79 per bottle.
According to Fred Minnick, the name “Stellum” derives from the Latin word for “star,” which makes this Kentucky whiskey brand the perfect partner for the space-themed collaboration.
The Whiskey Wash reports that Stellum Spirits & Star Trek Spirits’ Blended Rye Whiskey possesses a richly-scented bouquet of toasted almonds, drizzled with brown sugar. The palate possesses plenty of herbaceous dill qualities, interlaced with orange peel.
The blended whiskey leads with a burst of florals coupled with plenty of pepper aromas at first whiff — probably from the higher proof. The palate bursts forth with caramel corn, cedar and oak. A cinnamon finish lingers for ages, coupled with cardamom and cedar.
About Stellum Spirits and Barrell Craft
Stellum Spirits is produced by none other than Barrell Craft Spirits, and the whiskey brand focuses on elevating the American whiskey category.
Stellum launched in March 2021, and it features two whiskeys within its core program: a blue label bourbon and a green label rye. Both offerings are bottled at cask strength, and according to Barrell Craft Founder Joe Beatrice, Stellum Spirits focuses on elegance and simplicity.
“We wanted to create a brand that brings American whiskey into the modern age with simple elegant blends, and single barrels selected with care and intention,” Barrell Founder Joe Beatrice said in a statement. “Our whiskeys are created through a rigorous process of study, observation and experimentation. We are driven by progress, polish and — above all — attention to detail. We will always think critically about how to make our whiskey better.”
Stellum Spirits marks a sharp deviation from the intricate and highly complex blends often used in Barrell Craft Spirits. Barrell Craft Spirit’s Seagrass Rye, for example, features an eclectic mix of rye whiskeys from America and Canada, finished in Martinique Rhum, Madeira and Apricot brandy barrels.
Barrell Craft Spirits released a custom bottle of Grey Level Infinite with our Founder, Jay West, in October 2024. The youngest whiskey in this heavily-aged blend is 17 years old, and includes 22- and 24-year-old whiskies from Canada and Scotland, making it a truly eclectic blend. The whiskies spent time finishing in ice wine casks, which is now discontinued in Barrell Craft Spirits’ program.
