The Schtick: This release is distilled in Indiana by MGP using a 75/21/4 mashbill and aged for 16 years before being bottled under Lorely as part of the Maryland Heritage Collection (it is confusing, you’re right). This was released at 97.8 proof and cost somewhere between $180 and $230 based on when it was available for sale if I recall. It’s been a while. Let’s dive in!

Review #2650 | Whiskey Review #1140
Distiller: MGP
Bottler: Henry M. Wright and Co.
Brand: Lorely
Selection: None – General Release
ABV: 48.9% ABV
Age: 16 Years
Nose: Rich and perfume-y. Lavender, florals, plum and fig, some brown butter and vanilla bean. Toffee and honey.
Taste: Pleasant mouthfeel, big medicinal cherry and spicy oak. Big, bold, rich tannin. Heavy oak and a touch of bitterness. Nice texture and packed with floral notes, lavender, buttercream and butter pecan.
Finish: Medium finish that’s bitter and oaky, not in a bad way, but the oak is there and it’s clear. Honey, toffee, brown butter, nice tobacco and a hint of cherry cola.
Overall: These old MGP releases are lovely and while this one leans heavy into the strong oak and a bit much for me, it’s going to be solidly in the wheelhouse of many. It’s well composed, powerful and nuanced and downright delicious.
