Loch Lomond

The Spirits Business reported on Wednesday that Loch Lomond purchased New York Distilling Co. for a mysterious sum. New York Distilling Co. will be the first American whiskey brand owned by the company.

“This acquisition represents another milestone in the continued growth of The Loch Lomond Group,” Loch Lomond Founder and CEO Colin Matthews expressed, according to The Spirits Business. “We are looking forward to working closely with the talented and ambitious team at NYDC to invest in both the facilities and products, supercharging its growth both domestically in the US and around the world through the existing Loch Lomond Group distribution networks, as well as providing our help and expertise in the continued creation of fabulous flavors.”

Tom Potter and Allen Katz founded New York Distilling Company in 2011, according to The Spirits Business.

The craft spirits brand honors the Empire State’s rich history in distilling, which dates back to the 1700s. New York Distilling’s portfolio features three flagship whiskey expressions: Jaywalk Straight Rye, Jaywalk Bonded Rye and Jaywalk Heirloom Rye. The distilling company uses rye grain grown within the state of New York — particularly within the state’s Finger Lakes region — as the base grain of its mashbills.

In addition to rye whiskey, New York Distilling Company makes gins and ready-to-drink cocktails.

“We are excited to work with Colin and the Loch Lomond Group team going forward to help us grow further our fantastic brands around the world,” New York Distilling Company’s owners explained according to The Spirits Business. “LLG has a strong track record of success, wining multiple major awards over many years for their whisky brands of Loch Lomond, Glen Scotia, Littlemill and High Commissioner, and with sales in over 120 countries around the world, we can’t wait to introduce NYDC’s brands to many of the key whiskey markets over the next period.”

The outlet did not disclose whether Potter and Katz will remain involved in operations after the acquisition by Loch Lomond. Other brands owned by Loch Lomond include Glen Scotia and Littlemill. The scotch whisky powerhouse originated in 1965, according to the brand, but its roots go back way further.

Loch Lomond shares that Littlemill Distillery was established in 1772. Just a few decades later, in 1814, original Loch Lomond Distillery reached completion on the North-western end of the storied lake. The brand produces single malt and single grain whiskies, and it shares that it is just one out of a grand total of four distilleries that utelizes an in-house cooperage.
