The Schtick: This blended bourbon is part of Lost Lantern’s Summer 2025 Collection, which focuses on estate distilleries within the U.S. What are estate distilleries, you ask? Good question. This indie whiskey bottler from Vermont shares that estate distilleries craft whiskeys that lean on the concept of terroir, or a sense of place. They grow their own grains and distill them on site. Though estate wines have been around forever, estate distilleries have kept a pretty low profile until fairly recently. This bourbon features a blend of estate-grown bourbons from Far North in Hallock, MN, Frey Ranch in Fallon, NV and Whiskey Acres in Dekalb, IL.
It clocks in at 117.9 proof and has an age statement that ranges from 5 to 6 years. Just 428 bottles are available and hosts a suggested price of $100.
Review #2590 | Farmer’s Fields Blended Bourbon
Distillers: Far North, Frey Ranch and Whiskey Acres
Bottler: Lost Lantern
Brand: Lost Lantern
Selection: Summer 2025 Collection
ABV: 58.95% ABV
AGE: NAS
NOSE: The first thing I’m picking up on is Mexican Hot Chocolate, a heavenly and heady mix of confectioner’s fudge with hot pepper and cinnamon for a little kick. The confection qualities are super strong here, and there’s a nutty undercurrent of peanuts. The only thing I’m not quite sure about is that there is quite a bit of heat on this, which distracts from all that decadent chocolate and cinnamon goodness. Other than that, it’s cohesive and well-integrated.
PALATE: Beautifully luscious! Picture sticky toffee pudding with creamy vanilla ice cream and fleur de sel caramel. Though this could easily be a caramel dessert bomb, the salinity is what really makes this for me. I love this mixture of sweet, salty, creamy and umami. With such an impressively viscous texture, this is a really striking bourbon. The palate makes it a winner and it has me thinking about those ever-popular Butter salt-flavored doughnuts at Sidecar Doughnuts. Love the combination of sweet and salty!
FINISH: The salty butter note lingers on the palate, and the viscosity is nothing short of opulent. Cinnamon continues as well. The length on this is something else!
FINAL THOUGHTS: Lost Lantern’s offerings are some of the most characterful whiskeys I have ever tasted, each with its distinct personality and unique fingerprint. This is pure sticky toffee pudding decadence with salted caramel and melted butter throughout. I’ll admit I was a bit worried at first whiff from the heat, but the sweet with savory palate is what makes this for me, and if you’re a person who loves salty and sweet, you’ll find this bourbon delightful.
