On January 8, The Observer reported that an investor based in Georgia, named NexGen2780, expressed potential interest in buying Uncle Nearest and paying off the whiskey brand’s $108 million debt to Farm Credit Mid-America.
The General Partner of NexGen2780, Walter Miles, wrote a letter to the U.S. District Judge Charles E. Atchley Jr., inquiring about purchasing the whiskey brand.
“On behalf of a group of investors, I am pleased to formally introduce our intent to engage in a transaction designed to resolve the outstanding debt obligations of Uncle Nearest with Farm Credit Mid-America,” the letter reads. “This investor group is composed of both individual and institutional participants. The institutions expected to participate are long-established, many with histories spanning over 100 years, and collectively bring with them the experience of completeing 10,000+ transactions across industries and jurisdictions.”
In the letter, Miles expressed that “prolonged uncertainty” regarding the sale might adversely harm Uncle Nearest, and advocated for a “timely and orderly sale process” that was conducted under the supervision of the Court.
According to The Observer, Miles’ email address on the letter was a personal account, not a business account. Little is known about Miles, and it appears Miles does not have a LinkedIn profile.
The Spirits Business reported that NexGen 2780 was registered on June 11, 2025 as a domestic limited partnership under the stewardship of Eddie Morre, Kris Jester, Mark Jones, Chuck Speed and Miles.
The Observer reported that some of the clients under NexGen 2780 are Château Fillon and Vie de Rêve — a sparkling wine company. Another brand is the African winery that sources fruit from the Swartland region, Moedi Wines. Moedi Wines claims on its website that its goal is to “celebrate the essence of Africa.”
In early January, Uncle Nearest Founders, Fawn and Keith Weaver, filed a lawsuit against the company’s ex-CFO, Michael Senzaki.
The Weavers claimed in the lawsuit that Senzaki committed fraud by concealing millions in debt, and even misappropriated Fawn Weaver’s equity without her knowledge or consent.
