The Schtick: Distilled by National Distillers and release in 1969, this is the Old Crow Chessmen release from one of the most well known decanter releases in history. It also bears some of the best decanter whiskey (imho) that is out there. Old Crow was owned by National Distillers during this time, and I’ve always found their profile of dusty whiskey to be one of my favorites, often times trading blows with Stitzel. This whiskey comes from the light pawn from the set. Let’s get to it.

Disclosure: None – my bottle.

Review #2646 | Whiskey Review #1138

Brand: Old Crow

Selection: None – General Release

ABV: 43% ABV

Nose: Rich, sweet, maple and loaded with creamy vanilla, butterscotch, faint raisins, toffee. Lovely, decadent, syrupy and rich.

Taste: Moderate to rich palate, loaded with caramel candies, black pepper, maple and toffee. Syrupy and sweet, decadent and loaded with caramel, butterscotch, everything sweet. Faint praline and pepper.

Finish: Long finish. Decadent, rich, loaded with oak here, more toffee and butterscotch, little bit of caramelized sugar, crème brûlée. Lovely.

Overall: This stuff is silly good, rich and decadent and full of sweetness but in a natural, dessert-y crème brûlée sort of way. Excellent stuff, and among my favorite of dusties.

Thanks for reading!
