The Schtick: A unique release from David Jennings, this is Raconteur Rye. You probably know David Jennings from his blog RareBird101 where he covers all things (and I mean all things) Wild Turkey. This is a new venture, a partnership with The Woodwork Collective in Kentucky and marries rye from various sources across various releases with cask finishing and blending. Let’s dive in!

Review #2583 | Bourbon Review #1117
Distiller: Undisclosed
Bottler: Woodwork Collective
Brand: Raconteur Rye
Selection: None
ABV: 59.1% ABV
Age: 8 Years
Nose: Rich and dusty, it’s not a dusty bourbon or close to it but the rye and spice are dialed back in favor of raisin bread, toffee, tobacco, black tea and nutty praline.
Taste: Rich on the palate, black tea and sandlewood drive here strongly, packed with black pepper, dry oak, sweet toffee and a hint of musty, parchment, funk. It’s mizunara and hardly understated but totally enjoyable.
Finish: Long finish, lovely combo of spicy pepper, bold oak, some pepper, ginger, black tea and more tobacco and sandalwood.
Overall: Overall, miz and bourbon pair well but Miz and rye pairs better. This is delicious, complex, and well worth seeking out.
